VISTA members serve full-time to build the capacity of nonprofits and agencies in Texas working to eliminate poverty and collaborate with community members to implement sustainable solutions. Projects may include volunteer recruitment & management, communications & marketing, community outreach, partnership development, fundraising, or other critical tasks. Along the way, you will hone valuable professional skills and gain a deeper understanding of the realities of poverty at the local level.

  • Girl Scouts Academy VISTA  (Dallas, TX)
    Strengthen the infrastructure within the Girl Scout organization to reach more girls through innovative 21st-century programming designed to build the future female leaders of tomorrow!


  • Grace After Fire Development & Outreach VISTA (Houston, TX)
    Help women Veterans by providing the means to gain knowledge, insight, and self-renewal. Empower and guide women Veterans as they re-enter back into their communities, the workforce, and their homes.




  • Serve Houston Program Design VISTA (Houston, TX)
    The Program Design VISTA will contribute to the program’s mission through designing the Serve Houston program, developing volunteer roles, and designing an evaluation tool to measure impact.


  • Mosaic in Action Fund Development VISTA  (Pearland, TX)
    Help create a development strategy for Mosaic in Action, through researching and applying for grants and increasing donor engagement and retention, as we tackle issues of substandard housing.

Full Time VISTA members receive:

  • Monthly living stipend
  • $6,195 education award OR $1,806 end-of-year cash stipend
  • Relocation allowance
  • Healthcare coverage
  • Childcare coverage (if eligible)
  • Non-competitive eligibility for federal jobs
  • After a complete VISTA service year, VISTA members receive:

    • Interest paid on qualified federal student loans by the National Trust 

    • Your choice of $6,195 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award or a $1,806 end-of-service stipend

    • One year of non-competitive eligibility for federal government positions 

  • Applicants need to be over 18 years old when they start their AmeriCorps VISTA service and must have one of the following citizenship statuses: U.S. Citizens, U.S. Nationals, Lawful Permanent Resident Aliens, or persons legally residing in a state that have the following legal residency classifications: refugee, asylum or asylee, temporary protected status or deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) status. By law, only VISTA members who are either U.S. Citizens, U.S. Nationals, or Lawful Permanent Resident Aliens—sometimes referred to as “Lawful Permanent Residents”—are eligible to receive an AmeriCorps Segal Education Award.  All other members will receive an end of service cash stipend. There is no upper age limit to apply to AmeriCorps VISTA.
