Join AmeriCorps VISTA and become a powerful catalyst for lasting change.

VISTA members serve full-time to build the capacity of nonprofits and agencies in Texas working to eliminate poverty and collaborate with community members to implement sustainable solutions. Projects may include volunteer recruitment & management, communications & marketing, community outreach, partnership development, fundraising, or other critical tasks. Along the way, you will hone valuable professional skills and gain a deeper understanding of the realities of poverty at the local level.

  • OneStar VISTA Leader (Austin, TX)
    Applicant must have successfully completed one year of service to serve in this role. Develop and utilize your leadership skills to help support VISTA members in their efforts to eliminate poverty across Texas through a Statewide VISTA Intermediary Project
  • BookSpring Volunteer Program Development VISTA (Austin, TX)
    ​Develop and enhance a volunteer program that will support providing more books to more children across central Texas!
  • BookSpring Fund and Awareness Development VISTA (Austin, TX)
    Develop and enhance fundraising and public awareness efforts that will support the distribution of more books to more children across central Texas!
  • Beaumont Community Coalition Fund Development ​VISTA (Beaumont, TX)
    Develop donor relationships and create fundraising opportunities to uplift Southeast Texas communities through initiatives that empower women through professional development and educational support.
  • GirlScouts NETX Cookie Program VISTA  (Dallas, TX)
    Strengthen the infrastructure within the Girl Scout organization to reach more girls through innovative 21st-century programming designed to build the future female leaders of tomorrow!
  • GirlScouts NETX Academy VISTA  (Dallas, TX)
    Strengthen the infrastructure within the Girl Scout organization to reach more girls through innovative 21st-century programming designed to build the future female leaders of tomorrow!
  • Alliance for Community Assistance Ministries (ACAM) Donor Development VISTA (Houston, TX)
    Assist in maintenance and expansion of various donor relationships, securing grants and other resources while exploring tools and technology to strengthen partnerships.
  • Community Engagement Near Northside VISTA (Houston, TX)
    Develop robust partnerships between the University of Houston DT and community leaders/residents to create community-based initiatives that support the sustainability of the Near Northside community.
  • Orange County Disaster Rebuild Volunteer MGMT VISTA (Orange, TX)
    Help restore the well-being of those affected by Hurricane Harvey and develop sustainable methods of volunteer management to address ongoing long-term recovery needs after major disasters.
  • PEARLS Boys Foster Care Court VISTA, (San Antonio, TX)
    Help empower young men, ages 14 to 18 who have been placed in foster care, to become accomplished role models and leaders in our community through an integrated systems approach.

Eligibility Requirements

To serve as a VISTA member, you must:

  • Be 18 years or older (no upper age limit)
  • Pass a national service criminal history check
  • Hold one of the following citizenship statuses: US citizen, US National, Lawful Permanent Resident Aliens and persons residing in a state that have the following legal residency classifications: refugee, asylum or asylee, temporary protected status, or deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) status.
