VISTA members serve full-time to build the capacity of nonprofits and agencies in Texas working to eliminate poverty and collaborate with community members to implement sustainable solutions. Projects may include volunteer recruitment & management, communications & marketing, community outreach, partnership development, fundraising, or other critical tasks. Along the way, you will hone valuable professional skills and gain a deeper understanding of the realities of poverty at the local level.

Applicant must have successfully completed one year of service to serve in this role. Develop and utilize your leadership skills to help support VISTA members in their efforts to eliminate poverty across Texas through a Statewide VISTA Intermediary Project!


Integrate & enhance innovative artist live-work programming that expands long-term care to those in need through the creative use of Medicaid Waivers.


Develop donor relationships and create fundraising opportunities to uplift Southeast Texas communities through initiatives that empower women through professional development and educational support.


Create fundraising, volunteer, and communications resources to support an innovative reading and math program for PK4-12th grade student in Dallas and surrounding communities


Strengthen the infrastructure within the Girl Scout organization to reach more girls through innovative 21st-century programming designed to build the future female leaders of tomorrow!


Innovative Storyteller & Relationship Builder: Use your creativity and writing/design skills to strengthen infrastructure and provide afterschool support for 550+ at-risk youth and families.


Assist in maintenance and expansion of various donor relationships, securing grants and other resources while exploring tools and technology to strengthen partnerships.


The Web Solutions VISTA will work with technology partners to design and apply web tools to provide a seamless experience for end-users, collect and report program data to quantify community impact.

Help develop sustainable organizational resources to better provide preparedness resources before disaster hits, localized response in times of disaster, and support post-disaster for those in need.

VISTA members receive:

  • Monthly living stipend
  • $6,095 education award OR $1,803 end-of-year cash stipend
  • Relocation allowance
  • Healthcare coverage
  • Childcare coverage (if eligible)
  • Non-competitive eligibility for federal jobs

Eligibility Requirements

To serve as a VISTA member, you must:

  • Be 18 years or older (no upper age limit)
  • Pass a national service criminal history check
  • Hold one of the following citizenship statuses: US citizen, US National, Lawful Permanent Resident Aliens and persons residing in a state that have the following legal residency classifications: refugee, asylum or asylee, temporary protected status, or deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) status.
