Join AmeriCorps VISTA and become a powerful catalyst for lasting change.

VISTA members serve full-time to build the capacity of nonprofits and agencies in Texas working to eliminate poverty and collaborate with community members to implement sustainable solutions. Projects may include volunteer recruitment & management, communications & marketing, community outreach, partnership development, fundraising, or other critical tasks. Along the way, you will hone valuable professional skills and gain a deeper understanding of the realities of poverty at the local level.

  • Imagine Art Program Analyst VISTA (Austin, TX)
    Integrate & enhance innovative artist live-work programming that expands long-term care to those in need through the creative use of Medicaid Waivers.


  • OneStar Foundation Statewide Intermediary VISTA Leader (Austin, TX)
    Help build the capacity of OneStar Foundation’s Statewide VISTA Intermediary Program by providing training, peer development, and support to OneStar VISTA members across Texas. The Leader will mentor and coordinate teams of VISTA members throughout the state and develop and provide resources for the OneStar VISTA members.



  • Girl Scouts Academy VISTA  (Dallas, TX)
    Strengthen the infrastructure within the Girl Scout organization to reach more girls through innovative 21st-century programming designed to build the future female leaders of tomorrow!


  • ACAM Training Program VISTA  (Houston, TX)
    Develop and expand an in-demand social services training program that fosters collaborative initiatives and equips frontline responders in Houston’s battle to reduce poverty and homelessness.






  • PEARLS Boys Foster Care Court VISTA, (San Antonio, TX)
    Help empower young men, ages 14 to 18 who have been placed in foster care, to become accomplished role models and leaders in our community through an integrated systems approach.

    Full Time VISTA members receive:

    • Monthly living stipend
    • $6,195 education award OR $1,806 end-of-year cash stipend
    • Relocation allowance
    • Healthcare coverage
    • Childcare coverage (if eligible)
    • Non-competitive eligibility for federal jobs
  • After a complete VISTA service year, VISTA members receive:

    • Interest paid on qualified federal student loans by the National Trust 

    • Your choice of $6,195 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award or a $1,806 end-of-service stipend

    • One year of non-competitive eligibility for federal government positions 

Summer Associate benefits differ from those benefits offered to AmeriCorps VISTA members and VISTA Leaders. 

Summer Associates receive:
  • A living allowance for the time served, which is equivalent to the amount received by full-time members serving in the same area
  • Choice between a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award or an end-of-service summer stipend. Only those Summer Associates who successfully complete their full term of service are eligible to receive the education award or end-of-service summer stipend.

Unlike other AmeriCorps VISTA members, Summer Associates cannot change their end-of-service award option at any point during their service term.

The summer stipend is calculated based on the number of days a Summer Associate is scheduled to serve, multiplied by the daily accrual rate

Summer Associates do not receive:

  • Health care benefits
  • Child care allowances
  • Relocation allowances
  • Non-competitive eligibility

  • Applicants need to be over 18 years old when they start their AmeriCorps VISTA service and must have one of the following citizenship statuses: U.S. Citizens, U.S. Nationals, Lawful Permanent Resident Aliens, or persons legally residing in a state that have the following legal residency classifications: refugee, asylum or asylee, temporary protected status or deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) status. By law, only VISTA members who are either U.S. Citizens, U.S. Nationals, or Lawful Permanent Resident Aliens—sometimes referred to as “Lawful Permanent Residents”—are eligible to receive an AmeriCorps Segal Education Award.  All other members will receive an end of service cash stipend. There is no upper age limit to apply to AmeriCorps VISTA.
