AmeriCorps*Texas Symposium
Feb 26 @ 8:30 am – Feb 28 @ 2:00 pm

National service is an important way for individuals of all genders, ethnicities, economic backgrounds, sexual orientations, faith backgrounds, and physical and mental abilities to give back in a meaningful way to their communities. Texas and Texans are better because of the choice that thousands of people make every day to give back through national service. National service is important. National service matters. National service includes.

The 2019 AmeriCorps*Texas Symposium will be held Tuesday, February 26 – Wednesday, February 27 in Austin, Texas, with two post-Symposium workshops available on February 28.

There are no registration fees to attend Symposium or the post-Symposium events; however, participants are required to cover necessary travel and lodging costs. The registration deadline is Friday, February 15, 2019 (deadline for booking discount hotel reservation is Tuesday, February 5, 2019).

AmeriCorps*Texas Symposium will be a time for program staff to re-energize, re-focus, and re-connect on why National Service Matters. The overall goals of AmeriCorps*Texas Symposium are to ensure that participants:

  • Clearly understand CNCS requirements from a programmatic, fiscal, member management, and grant administration perspective.
  • Have an opportunity to connect with OneStar staff to address questions and share challenges & successes.
  • Have an opportunity to meet, connect, and collaborate with their peers in national service.
  • Increase understanding that when a program is set up and managed well, they are able to focus more intentionally on ensuring a meaningful and positive service experience for their members. A positive member experience will help lead to higher enrollment and retention, allowing the program to increase their impact in communities served.
  • Are energized by the impact of national service throughout Texas and return to their programs with increased motivation and inspiration.

  • All AmeriCorps*Texas 2018-2019 grantees are required to send at least one staff member to the Symposium. Programs are welcome to review the symposium agenda and sessions to determine which staff member(s) are the most appropriate to attend. Please contact your OneStar Program Officer with any questions about your program's attendance expectations.
  • The Primary Fiscal contact is required to attend the Financial Management Intensive held on Thursday, February 28. Exemptions to this will be considered on a case-by-case basis and may include approving a substitution or a full exemption if staff are able to document that the primary fiscal contact has recently attended training with similar content. Fiscal staff should contact their OneStar Grants Officer with any questions or to request an exemption to this attendance requirement.
  • OneStar welcomes AmeriCorps National programs with placement sites in Texas to attend.
  • OneStar welcomes AmeriCorps VISTA programs with placement sites in Texas to attend.
  • OneStar welcomes SeniorCorps programs with placement sites in Texas to attend.

New AmeriCorps Staff Orientation
Apr 30 @ 9:00 am – May 1 @ 4:00 pm

Due to limited space, this orientation is being offered to 24 new AmeriCorps program staff members. A waiting list will be generated once the first 24 individuals register. Priority registration will go to Primary Fiscal and Program staff from programs in the AmeriCorps Texas portfolio.

Current AmeriCorps State and National programs may register up to two appropriate staff members for this New AmeriCorps Staff Orientation. An "appropriate staff member" is someone who plays a significant role in your AmeriCorps program, such as your primary program and/or fiscal contact. Attendees will be responsible for sharing information and applying knowledge and updates received during the orientation with all staff at your organization.

Note: If an organization has more than two new staff members, you may register the additional members, but please know that OneStar will first allow staff from other organizations to attend before the third or fourth member from your organization attends.

The registration deadline is April 15th. Once registration closes on April 15th (or when we reach our maximum capacity), we will confirm your attendance. Additional information about NASO will be made available to confirmed attendees at that time.

Please use the "Travel to Commission Sponsored Meetings" line item to cover the cost of your attendance at this meeting.

By registering, you commit to attend both days of training in full. Due to limited space, if you are unable to make this commitment, please allow your spot to be taken by someone who can.

**Registrants who are "no-shows" for this event will be fined and receive an invoice to cover the cost of training materials, meals and supplies.**

**If fewer than 6 people register then this orientation may be cancelled**

The NASO schedule is as follows:

  • Tuesday, April 30, 2019,  9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. CST
  • Wednesday, May 1, 2019,  9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. CST

OneStar is committed to making our events inclusive of all people, of all abilities. If you require accommodations in order to fully participate in our event, please let us know via your registration so we can make necessary arrangements.

September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance
Sep 11 all-day

The September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance is the culmination of efforts originally launched in 2002 by the 9/11 nonprofit MyGoodDeed with wide support by the 9/11 community and leading national service organizations. This effort first established the inspiring tradition of engaging in charitable service on 9/11 as an annual and forward-looking tribute to the 9/11 victims, survivors, and those who rose up in service in response to the attacks.
