2017 Day of Recognition for National Service

United Way El Paso collagemayor-county-recognition-day-logo-2016  Dallas County Commissioners - County Day of Service

On April 4th, 541 city, county, and tribal leaders from across the State of Texas were among 4,520 mayors and county leaders nationally to join together in recognition of the impact national service participants in AmeriCorps and Senior Corps programs have made on their local communities.  This was a record high both in Texas and nationally. These elected officials represented 194 million Americans about two-thirds of the U.S. population!  The 5th annual Day of Recognition for National Service is a nationwide bipartisan effort to recognize the positive impact of national service in cities, to thank those who serve, and to encourage citizens to give back to their communities.

In Texas, our 541 participating elected officials represented over 24 million Texans, which is over 86% of the population of Texas!  Click here to view the list of participating Texas officials. It was wonderful to see all streams of service come together to plan events from Houston to Amarillo to McAllen.  Check out our Flickr album, for a sample of all recognition events that took place this year.

This was a record breaking year, both nationally and in Texas!  Check out CNCS's Storify for snapshot of activities all around the country.
