How Can Place-Based Work Lead to Liberation?

Courtney Thomas, MEd, is a former foster youth from West LA, who overcame the odds and earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree. She’s Youth Program Developer and Educator, Poet, Writer, Community Organizer, and started a business called Spilled Chocolate. Spilled Chocolate’s goal is to develop and promote change in ways that grow our bare and our core. A platform with multiple spaces for people of color to be vulnerable, release, and create. To provide resources and opportunities to close the gap and improve people of color’s mental and emotional state. Courtney is the Manager of Community Encouragement at For Oak Cliff, Inc., where she creates senior citizen programs, intern programs, and coordinates a series of community activities and programs to provide opportunities to families. With her background being primarily in education, along with several years of experience working with black and brown families, she is an expert in Urban planning.
