Beyond Volunteer Weekend: Ways to Build Capacity Working with Universities

Kandyce Fernandez, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Public Administration in the College for Health, Community and Policy at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Her research interests address emerging organizational structures and the interactions that take place between organizations across sectors. She has a particular interest in community-based nonprofit organizations, philanthropy, and civic health. Her recent publications include pieces on civic health and government-supporting nonprofits in The American Review of Public Administration, an article on neoliberalism and its impact on advocacy in the nonprofit sector published in Nonprofit Policy Forum, and an article on government-supporting nonprofits in public education published in Public Administration Quarterly. She is currently researching the role of police foundations as they support police-community relations, and how member-serving professional associations co-create expertise and professionalism with members.
