SUMMARY:Results-Oriented Communication that Works
DESCRIPTION:This interactive class provides turnkey frameworks and methods for communicating and interacting as a leader in ways that enable clarity\, performance\, and engagement. Leaders turn plans into reality by effectively knowing how to convey what they need from others in empowering ways that get everyone onto the team and into aligned action. Different situations call for different forms of interaction – is the objective of the conversation relationship\, alignment\, agreement\, problem-solving\, or binding action? We also examine the pros and cons of different communication mediums in leadership interactions (as opposed to administrative ones): explosive emails or convincing conversations. Size up your stakeholder\, the situation\, and the self-interests- then select the right approach. You will move to results quickly with a minimum of misunderstandings. What leader doesn’t want a lot more of that? \nObjectives: \n\nLearn to effectively assess what any given communication moment requires in order to select the most effective method to reach alignment and action with others.\nAcquire practical tools and methods that can be used impactfully and reliably to engage others across a variety of common scenarios that leaders find themselves in.\nEngage in peer practice and learning to build skills and also share support and encouragement as we find ways to take on the many tricky moments that leaders are faced with together\n\nWho should attend: Nonprofit Management Program participants\, first-time managers and coordinators\, individuals moving from individual performer/subject matter expert roles to group leader roles\, and experienced leaders looking for a fresh perspective to tune up their personal toolset. \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:The Hidden Cost of ‘Free’ Volunteers
DESCRIPTION:Volunteers are often seen as a “free” resource\, but anyone who manages a volunteer program knows that is far from the full story. Behind every successful volunteer initiative lies a range of hidden investments: staff time for recruitment and supervision\, consultants\, training materials\, workspace\, technology platforms\, insurance\, and more. These costs often go unrecognized\, underfunded\, or absorbed by already-stretched nonprofit teams. \nIn this eye-opening workshop\, we will break down the true cost of volunteer engagement and show you how to quantify the financial and operational resources your program really requires. You will learn to apply a cost calculation formula that translates hidden inputs into clear numbers\, giving you a powerful tool to advocate for adequate funding\, justify budget lines\, and communicate your program’s value to internal and external stakeholders. \nWhether you are a volunteer manager\, program coordinator\, or development professional\, you will leave with: \n\nA practical cost-calculation worksheet you can adapt for your own program\nReal-world examples to guide your estimates\nStrategies to build a stronger case for investment in volunteer infrastructure\nRenewed confidence to shift the narrative around volunteerism from “free help” to “strategic resource”\n\nLet us stop hiding the cost and start showing the value. \nMEET THE PRESENTER\nBrooke Campbell is Director of Community Outreach and Disaster Recovery for United Way of Greater Houston. She has more than 18 years of experience helping organizations strengthen communities through volunteer engagement\, program innovation\, and disaster recovery partnerships. She is a Certified Volunteer Administrator (CVA). Brooke was formerly Director of Volunteer Houston\, and held various roles with Boy Scouts of America. SUMMARY:How to Start a Nonprofit
DESCRIPTION:How to Start a Nonprofit \nAre you launching a nonprofit organization? Starting a nonprofit can be a rewarding endeavor\, but it requires careful planning and understanding of the unique challenges involved. Here are some important considerations to keep in mind: \nFeasibility Study \nHave you conducted a feasibility study? A feasibility study is essential to assess the viability of your nonprofit idea. It helps you understand the need for your organization\, identify potential challenges\, and evaluate the resources required to succeed. This process typically includes: \n\n\nMarket analysis to identify target demographics and community needs. \n\n\nFunding sources and potential revenue streams. \n\n\nAssessment of similar organizations and their impact. \n\n\nNonprofit vs. For-Profit Management \nAre you aware of the differences between managing a nonprofit and a for-profit business? Nonprofits operate under different regulations and expectations. Key distinctions include: \n\n\nMission Focus: Nonprofits prioritize their mission over profit generation. \n\n\nFunding Sources: Nonprofits often rely on donations\, grants\, and fundraising\, whereas for-profits focus on sales and revenue. \n\n\nTax Status: Nonprofits can apply for tax-exempt status\, which impacts how they handle finances and donations. \n\n\nAssistance with Form 1023 \n\n\nDo you require assistance with your Form 1023? This form is crucial for obtaining federal tax-exempt status from the IRS. Completing it accurately is vital\, as errors can delay your application. Our experts can guide you through: \n\n\nUnderstanding the requirements for Form 1023. \n\n\nGathering necessary documentation. \n\n\nCompleting the form correctly to ensure a smooth approval process. \n\n\nReserve your spot at our Nonprofit Start-up Webinar every Tuesday. Our team is here to provide the guidance you need to successfully launch your nonprofit organization. \nDon’t miss this opportunity to gain valuable insights and support as you embark on your nonprofit journey!

SUMMARY:When Things Don't Go as Planned
DESCRIPTION:What should you do if you have a volunteer who simply won’t follow your policies and procedures? In this workshop you’ll have the opportunity to explore when and how you might have to ask a volunteer to leave your organization. It’s not something we should take lightly\, but sometimes dismissal is the best option and we’ll walk through the steps of making this decision\, and following through. This workshop is the fourth in the series. Please plan to attend or watch the three previous workshops before attending. \nPlease register even if you aren’t able to attend live to receive the recording\, the slides\, and the worksheet for this session.
