The Literacy First program will have 72 AmeriCorps members who will provide intensive, evidence-based, early literacy interventions to at least 1000 PreK-2nd grade students in high-poverty schools in Central Texas. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for helping 65% of students to reach grade level in critical, foundational reading skills or to make accelerated progress to that goal. In addition, the AmeriCorps members will leverage 15 volunteers who will be engaged in in supporting member development. This program will focus on the AmeriCorps focus area of Education. The AmeriCorps investment of $872,551 will be matched with $1,572,500 ($747,500 in public funding and $825,000 in private funding).
