SUMMARY:Building What's Next: Community Voices and Nonprofit Disaster Readiness
DESCRIPTION:What does a more resilient Greater Houston look like\, and what do nonprofits need to get there? Join us for an interactive workshop where you will help shape the answers to both questions. \nFirst\, we’ll explore how your organization can help ensure the experiences and perspectives of the communities you serve are reflected in the Hurricane Harvey at 10: Building a More Resilient Future landscape study. Through a Train-the-Trainer session\, you’ll learn how to use Social Point\, an interactive digital platform where residents can share Hurricane Harvey experiences\, stories\, challenges\, and ideas for the future. You’ll leave with the tools to help your constituents participate and contribute insights that will inform the Hurricane Harvey Ten-Year Retrospective Report and help guide future resilience investments across Greater Houston. \nThen\, we’ll pick up where we left off with the Self-Guided Disaster Readiness Assessment for Nonprofits. At our last workshop\, you told us what you liked\, and what you didn’t. This time\, we’re rolling up our sleeves and designing solutions together. Developed by GHDA\, this tool is designed to help strengthen the systems\, skills\, and practices nonprofits need to serve their communities before\, during\, and after disasters. It’s not about compliance. It’s about providing easy-to-implement micro-changes that build capacity in ways that work for any size nonprofit. \nCome ready to learn\, share\, challenge ideas\, and help build what comes next. Your voice helped identify the gaps. Now\, let’s build the solutions.

SUMMARY:The Continuity Playbook: Succession Planning for Nonprofits
DESCRIPTION:What would happen if your founder\, executive director\, or program manager won the lottery tomorrow and walked out the door for good? Unlikely\, sure — but not impossible. The organizations that survive a sudden departure aren’t the lucky ones; they’re the ones that planned ahead. Don’t wait to be caught off guard. Your nonprofit’s future depends on the continuity you build today. \nWe are excited to welcome Rebecca White\, founder of The Content Cove\, for a free in-person workshop on sustainable leadership and succession planning. In her day job\, Rebecca helps with the overloaded nonprofit executive move into the strategic lane and out of the crisis lane. And for our workshop\, she’ll provide wisdom\, tips and tactics to help executives and boards clarify what successful transition looks like: engaging early and effectively\, building internal capacity\, shaping a role that others want to step into rather than a cautionary tale of burnout\, creating space for reflection and regeneration as the next phase for both executive director and organization.

SUMMARY:Results-Oriented Communication that Works
DESCRIPTION:This interactive class provides turnkey frameworks and methods for communicating and interacting as a leader in ways that enable clarity\, performance\, and engagement. Leaders turn plans into reality by effectively knowing how to convey what they need from others in empowering ways that get everyone onto the team and into aligned action. Different situations call for different forms of interaction – is the objective of the conversation relationship\, alignment\, agreement\, problem-solving\, or binding action? We also examine the pros and cons of different communication mediums in leadership interactions (as opposed to administrative ones): explosive emails or convincing conversations. Size up your stakeholder\, the situation\, and the self-interests- then select the right approach. You will move to results quickly with a minimum of misunderstanding. What leader doesn’t want a lot more of that?\nObjectives:\nLearn to effectively assess what any given communication moment requires in order to select the most effective method to reach alignment and action with others.\nAcquire practical tools and methods that can be used impactfully and reliably to engage others across a variety of common scenarios that leaders find themselves in.\nEngage in peer practice and learning to build skills and also share support and encouragement as we find ways to take on the many tricky moments that leaders are faced with together\nWho should attend: Nonprofit Management Program participants\, first-time managers and coordinators\, individuals moving from individual performer/subject matter expert roles to group leader roles\, and experienced leaders looking for a fresh perspective to tune up their personal toolset.\nREGISTER HERE
