Briana Torres serves a VISTA Leader for the OneStar AmeriCorps VISTA Project. She spent her prior VISTA year with the City of Austin’s Youth Initiative’s Office, where she developed youth programming to be more diverse, more welcoming, and more representative of Texas’ capital. She researched the histories of the programs, retrieving information about Title I schools in the Austin area and evolving demographics of Austin’s city council districts. Her final project included a database of comprehensive information on all students who participated in Austin’s Youth Programs from 2011 to the present. She also created a tangible outreach program for the office.
Briana’s passion for the VISTA program stems from one word: advocacy. Her leadership is built on open and honest communication, which she brings to her role as a VISTA Leader focused on creating lasting change and offering genuine support for VISTA members. Briana graduated from the Plan II Honors Program at the University of Texas at Austin in May of 2020. She will attend graduate school and hopes to focus her post-graduate studies around public health and advocacy methods.
