Sarah Richards serves as Director of Community Affairs providing leadership and oversight of OneStar’s community engagement and partnership initiatives, including communications, disaster services, external networks, government relations, and volunteerism. Sarah brings with her twenty years of experience leading community engagement and volunteerism initiatives in the Texas nonprofit, philanthropy and government sectors across a range of community issues. Prior to joining the OneStar Foundation team in 2020, Sarah provided capacity-building and strategic support to nonprofit and philanthropic organizations as an independent consultant. She has also served as Program Officer at the Cynthia and George Mitchell Foundation, a Texas-focused strategic grantmaking foundation; Executive Director of the Colorado River Alliance, a local nonprofit; and Program Director at Keep Texas Beautiful, a statewide capacity-building organization. Sarah remains deeply invested in local, state and national initiatives that drive sustainable, scalable impact for communities. She currently serves as board member of the Texas Association of Nonprofit Organizations, advisory board member of the SXSW Community Grants Program, and appointed member of Austin’s Water Forward task force. A native Texan, Sarah received a Master’s in Education from Texas State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Texas.
