Disaster Resilience > Rebuild Texas Fund > Hurricane Season Recovery Fund
The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs from June through November, putting Texans across the state on high alert. Recent years have produced storms that shatter existing records in storm frequency and human impact, and climate scientists continue to forecast increasingly active hurricane seasons. These powerful storms threaten to upend the lives of tens of millions of Texas residents with the potential to cause billions in damages.
Year after year, hurricanes wreak enormous havoc and trauma for Texans – upending millions of lives and livelihoods, disrupting economies and causing widespread damage. While these storms are inevitable, we can mitigate their consequences by proactively preparing, planning, and identifying resources before disaster strikes.
To ensure that Texas communities have the resources to recover from current and future hurricanes, the Rebuild Texas Fund has launched the Texas Hurricane Recovery Fund, which connects the generosity of donors to impacted communities, ensuring funding is readily available and can be quickly deployed in the aftermath of a storm. Giving to the Texas Hurricane Recovery Fund is one way you can help Texas communities build resilience in the face of these natural disasters.
The Rebuild Texas Hurricane Season Recovery Fund will support the relief and recovery efforts of communities impacted by the events of the 2021 hurricane season in five key areas.
Revitalizing schools and childcare centers to maintain enrollment, graduation outcomes, and access to higher education
Promoting mental health, wellness, good nutrition and health literacy
Helping displaced individuals and families come home to safe, affordable, and quality housing
Bolstering communities and lifting spirits through multi-generational social cohesion, civic engagement, and volunteerism
Mitigating poverty by restoring job and transportation access to get people back to work and individual asset building
Everyone has a role to play in helping Texas communities be Hurricane Strong.
In the words of community development and disaster recovery expert Angela Blanchard, “People can survive individually, but they thrive collectively.” In addition to donating to the Texas Hurricane Recovery Fund, here are other actions you can take.
