Strengthening resilience of Texas communities in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic

To address the struggles of Texas communities due to the COVID-19 pandemic, OneStar Foundation has deployed more than $955,350 from the Texas COVID Relief Fund to 16 organizations working to directly support the most vulnerable and underserved across the state. In partnership with Governor Greg Abbott, the Fund was established to provide critical funding to address urgent gaps in available community resources in the areas of health, education, and community development.

Since launching in May 2020, we received more than 400 applications totaling over $32 million in requested funding, demonstrating the immense and evolving need within the Texas nonprofit sector. To ensure available funding is distributed equitably across the state, we analyzed data on the regional impact of the coronavirus pandemic to determine where resources were most needed and prioritized consideration of nonprofits & agencies with broad geographic reach—especially in areas with limited access to local philanthropic relief funding.

Meals on Wheels Texas
$125,000 to strengthen the capacity of their home-delivery meal provider network in 80 communities statewide to efficiently serve the increased needs of seniors and individuals with disabilities.
Texas CASA
$100,000 to serve the needs of vulnerable children in foster care and their families by providing training, resources, and volunteer recruitment for 72 local CASA programs.
2-1-1 Texas Information and Referral Network (Texas Health and Human Services Commission)
$75,000 to support local staff who connect Texans in need with government and community resources at regional Area Information Centers around the state.
Boys & Girls Clubs in Texas
$72,350 to support youth development programs, academic enrichment, social emotional learning, and trauma-informed care in highly impacted communities across the state.
Latinitas
$60,000 to deliver expanded virtual STEM and STEAM educational programming in the form of clubs, summer camps, coding school, and conferences for Latina girls.
Sharing Hands A Respite Experience
$60,000 to provide emergency financial assistance for families who care for children with disabilities facing economic hardship due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Buckner Children and Family Services
$50,000 to maintain critical social service operations that serve the elderly, disadvantaged families, and displaced children throughout Texas.
Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Laredo
$50,000 to provide emergency rental, utility, and food assistance to prevent homelessness for families and individuals suffering the economic impacts of the coronavirus crisis.

$50,000 to develop and deploy an emergency management system to recruit and train veterans who are called upon by local government or healthcare leaders to respond to the on-going coronavirus crisis.
Lone Star Association of Charitable Clinics
$60,000 to provide prescription medications to patients and COVID-related operational support and capacity building resources at 70 charitable clinics across the state.
Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Antonio
$50,000 to provide safe temporary housing for families of critically ill children receiving medical treatment away from home and resting spaces for healthcare workers at the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio.
Shelter Agencies for Families in East Texas
$50,000 to safely provide housing, case management and basic needs assistance for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault as the sole provider of these services across a rural nine-county region.
The Salvation Army
$63,000 to distribute food boxes to 12 rural communities experiencing food insecurity as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Refugee Services of Texas
$40,000 to provide emergency financial assistance to refugees, asylees and survivors of human trafficking in Amarillo, Houston, and Harlingen and maintain critical operations in these three locations.
Hand to Hold
$25,000 to provide virtual peer support and mental health counseling to neonatal intensive care unit parents to help families heal, bond and care for their medically fragile babies in COVID-impacted hospitals.
Southeast Texas Food Bank
$25,000 to provide critical cleaning supplies to its agency partners and volunteers to ensure that they are able to safely supply food for those facing food insecurity.

We provide grants that make a lasting impact on Texas communities.

Texas COVID Relief Fund is not currently accepting grant applications. Check back for future opportunities and sign up for our newsletter to learn about opportunities when they are announced.

Eligibility

Organization must be a 501(c)3 nonprofit or government entity serving statewide or across a multi-county jurisdiction.
Organization must provide services that address immediate response or long-term recovery efforts in response to COVID-19 in at least one of the three areas:
- Health
- Education & Childcare
- Community & Economic Development
Additional funding criteria will be used to prioritize organizations with a history of providing services:
- statewide or across a significant portion of the state,
- in rural and underserved regions with limited access to local philanthropic relief funding;
- to vulnerable populations, such as seniors, children, homeless, low-income and displaced workers, first responders, medical professionals, and those without other resources.
