Hurricane Harvey was an unprecedented natural disaster that required an unprecedented effort in recovery. In August 2017, Hurricane Harvey made landfall in Texas bringing up to 130 mph winds and record-breaking rainfall to the state. Recognized as the wettest and costliest tropical cyclone on record, more than 185,000 homes were damaged and 9,000 destroyed, and damages in Texas were estimated at more than $41.1 billion. In response to this devastation, the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation teamed up with the OneStar Foundation to launch the Rebuild Texas Fund.
Thanks to the support of more than 33,000 corporate and individual donors, this collaborative project distributed $100 million towards recovery and rebuilding efforts in 41 counties impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Over the course of three years, remarkable progress was made—from home repairs to entire new subdivisions, from mental health support to job training, and so much more. Together, 2.1 million Texans have had the opportunity to rebuild their lives.
In response to Hurricane Harvey, Rebuild Texas Fund focused on these key areas to make an impact.
With the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation contributing a $36 million lead donation and additional match funds, an incredible 33,000 corporate and individual donors came together to support impacted communities across Texas in the wake of Hurricane Harvey through donations to the Fund. We are grateful for the support provided by our Fund Partners.
