The Amarillo Independent School District proposes to have 10 Half-Time and 45 Reduced Half-Time AmeriCorps members who will provide direct tutoring services in reading literacy and an academically-based after school program targeted to at-risk students in seventeen district elementary schools in Amarillo, Texas. At the end of the program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for 70% of student participants to show progress toward grade-level improvement in literacy skills as measured by Istation. This program will focus on the CNCS focus area of education. The CNCS investment of $393,225 will be matched with $393,226, the $393,226 is in public funding.
