Breakthrough Central Texas

About the Program

Breakthrough will have 284 quarter-time, summer AmeriCorps members who will teach courses in summer programs in Texas cities (Austin, Del Valle, Manor, Houston, and Fort Worth) and 35 fulltime, year-round AmeriCorps members who will deliver advising services and lead summer and yearround academic programming for Breakthrough students in grades 6-12 in Austin, Del Valle, Manor, Houston, and Fort Worth and Breakthrough high school graduates and college students attending colleges and universities throughout the United States. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for helping Breakthrough increase the number of students who meet academic milestones and enroll in college. In addition, the AmeriCorps members will leverage 200 volunteers, who will be engaged in tutoring, mentoring, and supporting Breakthrough students year-round. The AmeriCorps investment will be matched with $2,563,850 from other sources, of which $2,182,318 is private funding and $381,532 is public funding.
