AmeriCorps Recognition Events

Celebrating the impact of national service in Texas

AmeriCorps Week

Celebrating transformed lives that were #MadeInAmeriCorps

This event recognizes the organizations and individuals that make national service possible in thousands of locations across Texas and is a wonderful opportunity to share stories of impact and success with new audiences. AmeriCorps Week is celebrated the second week of March.

National Service Recognition Day

Engaging local leaders to honor AmeriCorps service

National Service Recognition Day is a nationwide bipartisan effort to recognize the positive impact of national service, to thank those who serve, and to encourage more citizens to give back to their communities. Hundreds of local leaders in Texas use this opportunity to honor AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers by participating in recognition events, issuing official proclamations, and taking to social media in a nationwide show of appreciation. AmeriCorps Texas programs spearhead local efforts and coordinate creative engagement opportunities tailored to your community. National Service Recognition Day is typically celebrated the first Tuesday in April.

AmeriCorps 25th Anniversary

Commemorating 25 years of national service

For 25 years, AmeriCorps has engaged individuals in intensive service at nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community and faith-based groups across Texas. In 2019, OneStar commemorated the AmeriCorps 25th Anniversary with lively events that reflected the exciting and celebratory spirit of this momentous occasion.

A look back at the extraordinary accomplishments of AmeriCorps

  • At the flagship event in Austin, 400 AmeriCorps members and friends of national service gathered at LBJ Auditorium & Plaza for a celebration powered by AmeriCorps alums. The event featured a ceremony showcasing stories from current and past members, a panel of AmeriCorps alums spanning 25 years, and the AmeriCorps pledge led by Austin Mayor Steve Adler.
  • In Dallas, 250 AmeriCorps members and friends of national service celebrated at Klyde Warren Park with interactive activities, speakers, and the swearing-in of new members with the AmeriCorps pledge.
  • In the Rio Grande Valley, members were sworn in at special ceremonies hosted at the UTRGV Brownsville and Edinburg campuses.

These events provided us with a valuable opportunity to look back at the extraordinary accomplishments of AmeriCorps members over the past 25 years, and to look forward by welcoming a new class that will be carrying on the enduring legacy of national service in the coming year. We are so grateful to everyone who joined us in recognizing this special milestone!
